Tips On How To House Train A Puppy
Start off right when you are house training your puppy. Always bring the new puppy out to your backyard (or other designated place) and let the puppy stay there until he “goes.” Praise him when he is done. You should plan on taking your new friend out at least every two hours for this purpose.
When house training, it is important to remember to feed the puppy in its crate and then carry it outside shortly after eating to let it go to the bathroom. It is very important that you remember to carry him or her and then set them in the grass.
When you carry him outside, make sure to set him on the grass. The puppy should feel grass under him so that he can get used to the idea that this is the proper place to do his business. If you think he’s taking too much of his own sweet time in doing what he has to do, try walking around a little so that the puppy will follow you. Walking sometimes loosens him up and makes it easier for him to go.
Remember also to take your puppy outside again just before bedtime. If he cries during the night, it may be that he needs a bathroom break. Take him outside if that’s the case.
After you’ve done this, bring him back inside and put him in his crate again. Try to keep the puppy as calm as possible so that he’ll go back to sleep. If you don’t break from this routine, you’ll find that after a few days, your dog will sleep straight through the night.
If you have to let your puppy go inside the house, one trick is to put newspaper on the floor. Place the newspaper so that your puppy knows that this is what it’s for. Over time, you can move the paper slowly toward the door so that in time, your puppy will understand and learn.
Another important trick is rewarding the puppy for its good behavior. When they do something you are proud of, show your enthusiasm and give them a treat for a reward.
It’s important, however, to only reward your puppy when she’s been good. Eventually, she will associate the good behavior with obtaining treats.
