There is no better way, other than word-of-mouth to attract the specific clients that your firm needs to grow. Whether you are a full service or micro-niche practice lawyer, online marketing is your ticket to growing your firm.

I set out to read everything I could about marketing. I decided ultimately on focusing my and my firm’s resources on internet legal marketing. Our clients are household consumers (rather than corporate or institutional), and so I figured the best place to attract clients, other than word-of-mouth, was online.

The main point of this article is to tell you that internet legal marketing works extremely well AND there is still massive opportunity for you. The fact is many lawyers and firms don’t bother with investing in an online marketing campaign.

What’s also so great about online marketing, especially at this stage, is you don’t have to do it exceptionally well to get decent results. Don’t think perfection, just go out and do it. I strongly recommend learning it yourself so if you do hire some or a firm, you know what to look for.

I’ve canceled my Yellow Pages entirely. The internet has leveled the playing field between small firms and large firms. Sure tons of resources make marketing online more effective, but with some good tools, know-how, and a small investment of time each week, a solo practitioner can do some phenomenal internet legal marketing and get tons of great clients.

Internet legal marketing is surgical

What is so great about internet legal marketing is, if done well, it is surgical. Surgical marketing means you get the greatest return on investment. The reason it is surgical is you can target your prospective clients far more precisely than not using the internet.

Take a radio spot for example. You have to pay big bucks to produce and play your message. The worst part is 99 percent of the people who hear it are not your prospective clients. That’s a huge waste.

Great search engine optimization entails optimizing your website and blog as well as generating and publishing content outside of your website. If you think simply putting up a website and/or blog is sufficient, then you’re missing out on many clients. Great SEO requires both on and off-site efforts. That said, when both on and off-site efforts are done will, the results are exceptional.

Internet legal marketing is absolutely perfect for lawyers because lawyers are generally good writers and their service is knowledge. Internet marketing involves a fair amount of writing and publishing information. Therefore lawyers who publish what they know all over the internet, and do so in an optimized method using the right keywords and building a community, will attract people to contact them who need those exact services.

The new rainmaking is done on the internet – whether using SEO and/or social media. Don’t get me wrong, word-of-mouth is still very powerful, but if you want exceptional growth at your firm, internet legal marketing is the way to do, specifically learning and doing excellent SEO.
